A film by Evan Beloff

About the Film
Pinned against the ropes of life, an orphaned immigrant boxer struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming a world champion. Using a gritty, cinema-verité style of filming, UNDERDOG PLAZA offers a rare and intimate look at the parallel between the ferocious sport of boxing and life.
Synopsis
If every sport has a narrative, then boxing is a tale of redemption. With each brain-jarring blow and fancy footwork come money and a chance at a better life. UNDERDOG PLAZA shows the raw side of boxing with the Haitian immigrant Dierry "Dougy-Style" Jean at its center -- an orphan with a turbulent past who uses boxing as his ticket out of poverty. The film follows the undefeated, super welterweight as he sweats and strains to fulfill his dream of becoming a world champion.
Shot in a gritty, cinema-verité style of filming, UNDERDOG PLAZA offers a rare and intimate look at the parallel between the ferocious sport of boxing and life. This all access documentary captures Dierry’s volatile relationships with his friend Ahmad “Mo-Mo” Abdul Amir and with his trainer “Mike Moffa” who struggles to keep Dierry off the streets of the gang-laden Haitian district of Saint-Michel.
UNDERDOG PLAZA follows Dierry’s turbulent life, his trials, tribulations and difficulties overcoming his troubles with poverty, prejudice and addiction. With the help of his trainer, Dierry makes a decisive commitment to get his life together. Does this scrappy underdog - pinned against the ropes of life - have the passion, the determination and the heart to make the impossible happen?
