A banner year for Bunbury Films as the Montreal production company releases four documentaries!

Montreal, Wednesday, January 13, 2010 – Bunbury Films is proud to announce that the upcoming year will see the release of no less than four of its documentaries. The Montreal-based production company, founded in 2002 by producer Frederic Bohbot, is now flying high after eight years in development and three successful documentaries under its belt: LEAVING THE FOLD (2008), BIGFOOT'S REFLECTION (2007) and ONCE A NAZI… (2006).

‘‘At a glance none of our releases for 2010 appear to have anything in common, but surprisingly and by no specific intention they are all about work in one way or another,’’ says Bunbury Films founder Frederic Bohbot. ‘‘It must be part of the current zeitgeist, we are looking inward at what defines us or how we define ourselves.’’

The slate of upcoming Bunbury Films releases includes a story of blue-collar life and why people work (Land of Destiny); a film about farming, tradition and the extraneous barriers that get in the way of people doing their job (Burning Water); a tale of sacrifice and struggle in the boxing world (Underdog Plaza); and an epic film about work, life and the expectations that we bring to everything we do (Work In Progress).

Land of Destiny
(Director: Brett Story / Producer: Frederic Bohbot)
In the Chemical Valley of southern Ontario, miles of interlacing pipelines and million-gallon storage tanks gather at temperatures of more than a thousand degrees to churn oil into plastics under a sky burnt orange with giant flares. Land of Destiny is a universal and timely story about the role of workers in a modern economy and an unflinching study of the importance – and meaning – of community.

Work In Progress
(Director: Bill Stone / Producer: Frederic Bohbot)
Work In Progress is a film about expectations. It’s the story of two artists who inadvertently link their creative forces in a relationship that is at once co-dependent, antagonistic and profoundly rewarding. They question the unexpectedly massive undertaking of their chosen "art" projects; reminding us all that sometimes art (and life) is as much about the process of creation than it is about the finished product.

Burning Water
(Directors: Cameron Esler & Tadzio Richards / Producers: Frederic Bohbot & Evan Beloff)
In the Rosebud River Valley near Calgary, Alberta, the water in many homes can be lit on fire. Everyone agrees there’s gas in the water. Few can agree on why. Burning Water is an intimate, human story on how people respond to a crisis they didn’t start, in a place where fact collides with fiction, and the future depends on whose story turns out to be true.

Underdog Plaza
(Director: Evan Beloff / Producer: Frederic Bohbot)
Underdog Plaza follows boxer Dierry Jean’s journey as he pursues his dream and struggles to overcome a number of obstacles. On the road to becoming a world champion, the film chronicles Dierry’s rise as a boxer and growth as man – rising above poverty, providing for his family, acting as role model to young Haitians and achieving his dreams.

Bunbury Films’ distribution division has also re-launched the websites for Once a Nazi… and Bigfoot’s Reflection, with DVDs available for purchase on each film’s respective website. Leaving the Fold is also available for purchase online. Each film has found captive audiences abroad – in Finland (YLE), Australia (ABC), Belgium (RTBF), Poland (Canal +), Israel (Noga) and Asia Pacific among other places – and all seven completed Bunbury Films productions will mobilize the television markets by the end of the year.
